The Net Languages English for Doctors courses are specifically designed for doctors who deal with English-speaking patients in the surgery. The courses provide study and practice of useful language. They contain visually attractive materials, high-quality listening and video material, and a wide variety of exercise types and activities to make learning and practising English a meaningful and fun experience.

The courses provide learners with approximately 25 hours of study material. Written and spoken tutorials put the content of the course into practice in a useful, communicative and enjoyable way. Course participants can consult with tutors about any issues that arise concerning the use of English in their personal context.

Course information

Basic (A1–A2)

In this course you will learn essential language used in the surgery. You will:

  • practise useful vocabulary, the alphabet, spelling and numbers
  • practise greetings and exchanging basic information
  • read and reply to an email message from a patient
  • study the language of a surgery consultation
  • prepare and practise a consultation with a patient.

Intermediate (B1–B1+)

In this course you will learn essential language used in the surgery. You will:

  • practise useful vocabulary
  • read and write email correspondence with a patient
  • study the language of a surgery consultation
  • write an email informing a patient on the progress of their illness
  • prepare and practise a consultation with a patient.

Advanced (B2–C1)

In this course you will learn essential language for making medical presentations. You will:

  • practise pronunciation of common scientific words, and practise useful medical vocabulary
  • read and summarise a medical article, focus on negation and scientific vocabulary, and write a short project summary
  • watch and listen to a short medical presentation, practise the use of the -ing form and infinitives, practise linking ideas and information, and practise a short spoken presentation
  • practise common collocations, words that are commonly confused, expressing facts and opinions, concession and contrast, using not only, and you will write a short project summary
  • practise ways of describing cause and effect, intonation and a second spoken presentation.
